March Brown

The March Brown is a common insect name given to many different insect species. At its most simple, if you are fishing early spring (doesn't have to be March), and you see a hatch sometime midday, and the color is somewhere in the brown category, you best be prepared. This pattern is medium brown, also covers Brown Drake. Many places this will be the first significant dry fly action after the long winter. Rithrogena Germanica, Stenonema Vicarium, Rhithrogena morrisoni, are all insects commonly referred to as March Browns.
